Kyle Handrich, LLPC

Specialty: Existential counselor working with individuals/groups experiencing issues in depression, anxiety, adjustment, relationships, purpose, meaning, boredom, death, spirituality, career, and more.

Bio: We all experience a predicament trying to navigate the absurdities and obstacles in life. Soren Kierkegaard, a philosopher, articulated it well: “Life can only be understood backwards but it must be lived forwards.” Kyle believes therapy helps us process this paradox through a courageous practice of turning our focus inward and confronting the parts of ourselves that we are often intent on avoiding. Having a background in philosophy, Kyle primarily works within an existential framework. This means that Kyle believes individuals are “authors” in their own lives: capable of making choices that enact real change in how life is experienced. While we can utilize this outlook to motivate, empower and lend possibility to those feeling stuck, we come to sense the responsibility that resides in the opportunity to change: to live forwards.

To engage with this responsibility, Kyle frequently encourages entertaining different perspectives and deepening self-awareness. This is aided by his effort to foster a space where difficult, perhaps even unanswerable, questions can be posed, confronted, and engaged with freely. Kyle attempts to shape therapy as an interruption in daily living: a moment to step back and register assumptions that may be operating at the foundations of our perceptions and understandings.

Kyle will meet you in your circumstances and encourage you as you reflect on your “self” and dare to adapt in courageous ways. Kyle is grateful to share in these efforts and feels it is a true privilege to participate in such vulnerable efforts.
