Hello! I’m Marissa and I’m a licensed bilingual Speech Language Pathologist who works closely with families to help children with communication disorders. I’m originally from Arizona, where I became bilingual in Spanish. I graduated from University of Arizona in 2014 with bachelor’s degrees in Linguistics, Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, and a minor in Spanish. I then received my Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Oregon. I recently moved to Michigan and have slowly been getting used to the cold!
I have experience working in pediatric outpatient clinics, public schools, preschools, and in the home setting. I enjoy helping parents/caregivers implement strategies into their everyday routines and working with children who have developmental and language delays; speech and oral motor issues; stuttering; and children on the autism spectrum. I also have additional experience and training with a variety of languages in order to provide monolingual or bilingual therapy approaches to maximize progress across the two languages.
I decided to go into private practice to have more flexibility in meeting parents’ needs. I feel that many parents want to be more involved with their child’s speech therapy but there’s so little time in the day. My practice is all about adapting therapy to fit into life’s hectic schedule.
